It is a new year.

This is my first semester away from a Writing Center. I want to know: how is it going? Have our antiracist conversations started yet? What are we doing OUTSIDE of our centers to promote antiracism?

This is an important question, one I hope folks take on. Now that the Spring semester has begun, have tutors continued the conversation, especially in an open space with new tutors?

I think we need to focus this question more.

Consider that the maintenance of social activism in a particular setting--with the goal of said practice becoming sustainable--takes a great amount of energy. This energy must be sourced from elsewhere than existing for its own sake. Therefore, people are needed to continue this work and that requires current actors, like us, to keep working.

My concern is that asking what we do elsewhere may trivialize or deviate us from our short-term goals. Still, I'll bite.

Typically, when I hear something racist, I ask those involved to explain. Usually, this is family and friends--where else to start than at home?
